The laws of thermodynamics, property relations, equilibrium, solutions (metallic and polymer) and phase diagrams are covered and applied specifically to the study of materials science in volume one. An introduction to statistical thermodynamics provides a basis for the understanding of equilibrium thermodynamics and contributes to an understanding of kinetics.
