The Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, Vol 4 is the newest installment in the first comprehensive recording of the entire Fitzwilliam Virginal Book. This installment is a 2-CD set containing compositions by Bull and Farnaby. The most famed, pertinent, and all-encompassing collection of keyboard music from the English Jacobean and Elizabethan eras, the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book is housed in the Cambridge at the Fitzwilliam Museum. The collection contains over 300 compositions for the virginal, by composers such as Bull, John, Thomas Thompkins, William Byrd, and many more. Giles Farnaby and John Bull, the two composers featured on this installment, were two famous British keyboardists. Their compositions vary widely, consisting of dance forms such as Fantasias, Pavan, Galliarda, and keyboard arrangements of popular madrigals. One of the worlds leading keyboardists, Pieter Jan Belder already has a number of recordings to his name. He performs these pieces beautifully on the harpsichord, and has written the liner notes for this album.
