The Latin Album Collection New Collection of Popular Spanish Songs
Specially Priced 8-CD Box Set
Popular songs, ballads and light repertoire have always played a huge part of Plácido Domingo s career, from his first appearances on stage in his parents zarzuela company to collaborations with stars such as Josh Groban and Susan Boyle. "The Latin Album Collection" showcases eight delightful discs of Domingo's recordings of popular Spanish songs recorded between 1984 and 2002. Several are devoted to the works of just one pivotal composer: "Siempre en mi corazón" focuses on the hits of Cuban musician Ernesto Lecuona; "Soñadores de España" is comprised of songs by the Spaniard Manuel Alejandro; and "Bajo el Cielo Español" consists of works by Mexican composer AugustÃn Lara best known for his composition "Granada." Other discs are themed around a particular genre or location; "Adoro" centers on Mexican songs in general while "100 Years of Mariachi" takes a close look at the folk music so closely associated with Mexico. Domingo s success in the lighter music genre has been acknowledged by the Grammy®'s with "Siempre en mi corazón" winning for Best Latin Pop Performance in 1984 and "100 Years of Mariachi" was awarded the Best Mexican-American Performance Grammy® in 2000. In 2010 Domingo was awarded a Latin Grammy® for Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year.
