Kelly Sherburne, director of research at a major Chicago bank, is murdered early one morning in her office. The main detective assigned to the case, Ray Capone, soon finds out that Ms Sherburne was not very well liked, hence everyone in the department will come under scrutiny. That is, except for Gerrie Vaughn, a down-to-earth economist he enlists to help him navigate the workings of a research department. It doesn't hurt that she is bright, attractive, and eager to help. With very few clues and a plethora of self-proclaimed extremely bright suspects, Ray, and his partner, Greg DelVelchhio, wonder if these people are perhaps smart enough to get away with murder.
