Valknut is a magic symbol, an interlacing of three triangles, symbol of Odin and associated magic, a symbol of transitions (bridges) between worlds. Each of the triangles corresponds to three vertical worlds: one to Asgard or Alfheim (the upper world), the other to Midgard (middle world), the third to Hell or Swartalfheim (the lower world).
The word Valknut is of ancient Norse origin and consists of two components. Valr - the Fallen Warriors, knut-knot.
So in the first place it can be translated as "Knot of the Fallen." It is also called the "Node of the Chosen" or "Heart of Hrungnir". Valknut is a symbol of the way of the Warrior, by which he will go after death. Whether Valgalla or Hel, or maybe he is destined to stay in Mitgarde.
On all the old images Valknut is depicted next to the warriors. And it is pictured in both ways - vertices up and down
