LOVE FILLING STATION is singer/songwriter Jesse Winchester's first CD for Appleseed and his first studio album in nine years. He's recorded more than a dozen albums for various labels since his 1970 self-titled debut, which was produced by the Bands Robbie Robertson, engineered by Todd Rundgren, and included Robertson and fellow Band-member Levon Helm as sidemen. LOVE FILLING STATION contains nine Winchester originals and three cover versions, including a gentle, deeply felt rendition of the classic "Stand by Me." Guest artists on the new CD include the acclaimed solo artist and sideman Jerry Douglas on lap steel guitar, bluegrass-country wizard Russ Bahrenburg (guitar, mandolin), and roots solo artist Claire Lynch (backing vocal). The overall sound of the CD is a mixture of country, bluegrass, contemporary adult pop, and a hint of gospel, all convincingly melded together by Winchester's restrained but soulful vocals and artful phrasing.
