Heijoshin no ken - The sword of each day: A guide to the study of Iaido
Iaido is a Japanese sword fighting method which stems into the traditions of Samurai schools of the past 5 centuries. It is practiced through combat forms (Kata). The main purpose of this art is to draw the sword from its scabbard and in the meanwhile being able to hit one or more opponents in a fast and effective way. This book has the purpose to give some references to the Westerns practicing this still “esoteric" art (esoteric since it is practiced by a relatively small number of persons through the World, Japan included). It is focused on all that aspects which are not so evident and in some way hidden, such as body and control, breathing, posture and mind control. After a brief historical and technical introductory section, there is a part where are given practical exercises to develop a better consciousness of body and mind, breathing exercises and technical suggestions for a better use of katana sword. A section with all the possible training methods and their use is then included, with all the explanations about how to use them. The final part is dedicated to how Iaido can be used as a self-improvement method and is giving suggestions for students and teachers.
