Cycling South Korea: Seoul to Northeast, East Sea Coast & Busan to Seoul
After three years of cycling trips in the Indian subcontinent, Colombia, and Europe, adventure cyclist Tomas Belcik rides in the Far East. As usually, he rides without any idea where he may spend the night; no reservations necessary. He prefers an unplanned and a vague journey. Letting the daily rides unfold as they may, he is sightseeing from the saddle. From Seoul, he rides northeast across the mountains to the east coast and up to the end of the road at the DMZ border with North Korea. From there, he cycles south along the East Sea coast to the very bottom of the Korean peninsula. In Busan, he begins a traverse through the interior of the country back to Seoul. He rides along the spine of Korea delineated by two of Korea’s great rivers, the Nakdong and the Han.
Cycling South Korea is a travelogue and a guide for an avid road cyclist and a touring enthusiast. Included are GPS tracks as well as an extensive photo essay of each stage. If you ever thought of cycling in South Korea, the book will inspire you to go. As Tomas says, ‘Stay light to nil on preparation and you shall discover what is worth discovering!’ All else will take care of itself.’
