This new release is part of PentaTones Remastered Classics Series, which remasters some of Philips Classics most successful recordings from the 1970s. Georges Bizet, unfortunately did not see the peak of his success before his passing in 1875, only three months following the unsuccessful premiere of his now famous opera Carmen. When the opera premiered in Vienna later that year, the work became a global success. This recording is from the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sir Neville Marriner, and was originally taken in 1978. Marriner remains one of the most distinguished conductors of the 20th century.
