A Fixation on Moles - James J. Angleton, Anatoliy Golitsyn, and the "Monster Plot": Their Impact on CIA Personnel and Operations
This article which appeared in the Central Intelligence Agency's in-house organ "Studies in Intelligence" is based almost entirely on classified studies and papers written by senior CIA officers who either worked with James Angleton during his time as chief of the CIA Counterintelligence Staff or who worked in CIA Soviet operations at that time. It provides an interesting and informative look at the mindset of James Angleton and the dire effect his hunt for a mole in the CIA had on the agency. For national security reasons the entire document has not been declassified, and as a result some information is redacted. Redaction is indicated at the appropriate place in the document.
