We are excited and delighted to bring you this premium, artisan Raw (Sheng) Puer tea. Teas of this quality are rarely seen in the United States. Using relationships built up over a decade and involving many trips to Yunnan province, we were able to find a tea that met our high standards for flavor, aroma, health benefits, and natural & ethical growing techniques. Puer Tea is considered to be the original tea first discovered by the Chinese over 4,000 years ago. This particular tea came from a high elevation and from old growth wild tea trees in the southwest Xishuangbanna region of Yunnan Province in China. The area is vast, but the Bulang Mountain area near Banpeng Village is considered by the Chinese to have the best terroir for producing exceptional Puer Tea. There are 56 recognized ethnic minorities in China and the Bulang people of this area are recognized as one of them. It is believed they were one of the first groups to establish wild tea gardens in the Xishuangbanna region and their culture is intrinsically linked to tea. Raw (Sheng) Puer Tea is naturally dried, then pressed into a tea cake. Over time it will slowly ferment giving it an increasingly complex flavor. One reason Puer teas are considered healthy may be this microbial fermentation, which happen with Puer teas. If you drink it now, which you definitely should try, our Sheng Puer will be refreshingly crisp and slightly sweet. If properly stored, this Puer tea can age for more than 50 years. Over time it will change in character, complexity, aroma, and flavor. Of course, it is also ready to drink now. Break off a small piece for steeping. Ultimately, the actual steeping time and preparation will depend on your palate. Usually, a Young Raw (Sheng) Puer uses water about 180F. See our tea preparation guidelines below and on our website. Also, please remember, the only right answer is your preference. Simply enjoy!
