This CD presents the world premiere recordings of three remarkable works by Magnus Lindberg (b. 1958) written for and premiered by the New York Philharmonic under Music Director Alan Gilbert. The opening work, EXPO, was the overture in Gilbert's very first concert as the Philharmonic's new Music Director and Lindberg's first season as their Composer-in-Residence in 2009. The symphonic piece Al largo and the virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 2 - premiered by the Israeli-American pianist Yefim Bronfman - bear further witness to three remarkable years of artistic collaboration between the legendary orchestra, its celebrated Music Director and one of today's strongest Nordic composers.
