One of the last great French keyboard masters, Jacques Duphly was born in Rouen in 1715, the year of the death of Louis XIV, became an esteemed harpsichord teacher and a player in Paris, and died on the day after the storming of the Bastille in July 1789. This recording features Japanese-American harpsichordist Aya Hamada performing a collection of character pieces and stylized dance movements selected from his four books of Pièces de clavecin (1744-1768). Recorded at Chapelle de l'Hôpital Notre-Dame de Bon Secours, Paris on the 'Nicholas Lefebvre 1755' / Martin Skowroneck 1984 harpsichord (ex-collection Gustav Leonhardt).
