How to build a Network Attached Storage (NAS): 2016
A Network Attached Storage is a metal box with digital storage space to hold your Digital Photographs, Purchased Digital Video Files or any computer files that you'd like to share or backup to at home.
This eBook will guide you to build a NAS through Do-It-Yourself style (DIY) using commonly available computer parts.
Chapter 1 will guide you through on selecting the hardware required. It will help you identify : ~ a practical but nice looking casing for your DIY NAS, ~ a suitable motherboard and processor, ~ memory modules size, ~ a power supply unit, ~ hard disk drives, ~ the Operating System (OS) for the NAS and the storage device where this OS will reside and run from, ~ the hardware required to run the stress tests to test out the built NAS.
Chapter 2 will illustrate the process of putting together the hardware identified in Chapter 1.
Chapter 3 shows you the steps to obtain the stress tests software, installing them onto a bootable device and running them.
Chapter 4 details the installation of the NAS OS and the basic configuration to get the NAS up and running on your home network.
